Our train left Hamburg at 0803 and arrived at Zurich at 1600, right on the advertised. This was remarkable bearing in mind the poor performance last year when DB terminated out train at Basel and we had to make our own way to Zurich. The train actually left Kiel at 0645. We had two window seats in a six person first class compartment. Although long, the ride was pleasant with sunny skies and no wind. I felt much more at home when we crossed the border into Switzerland at Basel. From Basel we were with a Swiss couple and a German who was working in Zurich. They all spoke impeccable English.
There was a little confusion at Basel as to whether the train was actually going to go through to Zurich. It was compounded by the DB crew saying good bye.
The Bristol Hotel is by now very familiar to us and we quickly checked in.
We were ready for beer and a pizza after a long day's travelling.
After supper we had an orgy of train watching. Zurich is very busy indeed.
