DB started off today where they had last carried us - by trying to screw us. As we approached Hamburg Air Canada boasted that we would be in early. However, by the time we had taxied for ever and then taken a bus we got to the terminal 15 minutes late. There was a long walk to the train station and it took 15 minutes diligent searching to find the poorly marked WC.
We last saw DB when they turned us out of our train at Basel and made us find our own way to Zurich last year. This time our train to Hamburg was cancelled. We went to the DB office to find out that it was only canceled up to Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof so we had to find out way into town. The helpful lady at the inquiry office gave us a train from platform 4 for the ten minute ride into town and said our train to Hamburg would leave from platform 8. It turned out that our train left from 5, not 4 and the Hamburg train left from platform 6. This was the only train that left to time - all the others were up to 45 minutes late.
It is a pleasant four hour journey to Hamburg through rolling countryside with the occasional small village with its small church and the odd town. We only stopped at Kassel, Gottingham and Hanover With smart station work we only contrived to be 5 minutes late. The hotel is right at the end of the station concourse and we were quickly checked in.
Early to bed.
