Saturday 24 August - Around Zurich

First thing we took the tram number 10 to the seilbahn Rigiblic which is a short funicular with three middle stations.
One of the stations has a green roof

We took the number 10 back to the Hauptbahnhof and obtained have SIM cards from Swisscom. Took a tram to Zurich Selnau and from there the SZU to Lagnau Gattikon. The SZU is an independent electric Railway operating primarily on singletrack with passing loops. The ride was pleasant with a maximum speed with 78 km an hour. At Lagnau Gattikon we looked for a model shop which wasn't open even though it should have been.

However, as a bonus, we were surprised by the appearance of a historic rail car.

No 84 was built in 1924 for the Sihlthalbahn. It is used on excursions

We took the SZU back to Zurich Selnau only to find that two other model shops were either closed for the day or closed permanently.ack to Zurich sale now and then tried to visit to model shops one of which was closed today a second one looks as if it may be closed permanently.

Walking through Zurich was a pleasure. The Bahnstrasse is one of the most heavily used yet is was very quiet. It was crowded yet all you could hear was the quiet buzz of conversation punctuated by the frequent trams.

Zurich has a Wallace Fountain donated by the city of Paris in 1982 to initiate the World Convention of Water Experts in Zurich. The four nymphs personify simplicity, purity, sobriety and charity.
They symbolize international cooperation in providing people everywhere with pure and salubrious water.

This afternoon we took the tram out to the tram museum.  The exhibits are all well looked after and there was a half hourly service of museum trams into Zurich. We took the Forchbahn all the way to the end of the line at Esslingen and back to Rehalp where we transferred to the museum tram and trailer for the ride into town.

The museum switcher was pretty busy while we were there and we later saw it as it took a swing through town

It was a good but tiring day. The weather was excellent - cool in the morning but hot and sunny later on.  The whole down town area was crowded with people and families having fun There weren't a great number of cars to be seen and the trams were working frequently.
